Wed, 15th December '10

Due to numerous requests the deadline for abstracts
has been extended until 31 January 2011

The 5th International Wildland Fire Conference will provide a platform to bring together members of the fire community-of-practice who strive to promote learning and innovation, share practices and lessons common to sustainable use of the environment, wildland fire risk management and disaster reduction at local, national, regional and global scales. The conference will be conducted under the auspices of the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) as well as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and convened by the regional Sub-Saharan Wildland Fire Network, AfriFireNet.

The Conference Programme is arranged around the theme “Living with Fire – Addressing Global Change through Integrated Fire Management”. Contributions for papers of 15 minutes or posters are most welcome. The presentations, exhibitions and insights offered by international professionals and experienced fire management personnel will appeal not only to fire and disaster risk management specialists, scientists and practitioners, but also to students, the conservation, commercial forestry and agriculture sectors, community leaders, policy and decision-makers.

PLEASE NOTE: A discounted rate for accommodation at Sun City is available for registered delegates.
This offer expires 1 March 2011.

Registration fee for delegates: Euro 320. This entitles delegates to attend all sessions, the welcome reception, the “valley of the waves” dinner, daily teas and lunches and entrance to the exhibition. Additional extras, such as the exciting field day at the neighbouring Pilanesberg Game Reserve, are outlined on the website.
