ILC meeting

Tue, 9th June '09

Working on Fire and its partner network AfriFireNet will be hosting the 5th International Wildland Fire Conference in Sun City, May 2011. The International Liaison Committee (ILC), consisting of leading fire management professionals and practitioners from around the globe, exists to provide expert advice and guidance to the National Organising Committee (NOC). Recently, in May, the ILC met in Sun City for its’ first official meeting. The committee members were impressed with the venue chosen for the conference, and were pleased with the progress of all preparations made so far.  The inspection included that of the adjoined PGame Parkilansberg Nature Reserve, where it is planned for live fire fighting and prescribed fire demonstrations to take place.

One of the members present, Murray Dudfield, representing the AFAC – the Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council as well as the National Rural Fire Authority of New Zealand, commented: “The events of last week have cemented what will be a great global event in 2011 for the wildland fire stakeholders around the world. Looking forward to working with the 2011 conference organising team to ensure this occurs.”
